Chat tab

The Chat tab of the browser extension's side panel is Qubit beside HaloPSA: it works with the ticket or client you have open and asks for your approval before it changes anything.

The Chat tab is Qubit in the side panel: the same assistant as Chat with Qubit in the web app, next to the HaloPSA page you are working on. You ask in plain words, Qubit looks things up, and it asks for your approval before it changes anything. Everyone who signs in to the extension can use it.

This page covers what is different in the panel. The shared details are on other pages, and this page does not repeat them:

Before you start: Install the browser extension and sign in to it. Finding your way around the side panel explains the panel itself. If chat has been switched off for your organisation, the tab says so; see When chat is not available.

Ask about what you have open

Qubit works with the HaloPSA ticket or client you have open. With a ticket open, the bar at the top shows its number, and the suggested prompts follow that ticket:

  • Summarise this ticket in three bullets
  • What has already been tried?
  • Draft a short update for the customer
  • Are there similar closed tickets?

With a client open the prompts are about that client, such as What is open for this client right now?, and with neither open they are general, such as What tickets need attention today?

  1. Open Chat in the tab strip. A new conversation shows Ask Qubit with the prompts.
  2. Select a prompt to send it at once, or type your own question in the message box, Ask Qubit…, and press Enter to send (Shift+Enter for a new line).

While Qubit works, the tab says Qubit is working… and the send button turns into Stop. Select Stop to end an answer early. If the connection drops, the tab says Connection lost — retrying… (Stop to cancel) and keeps trying to deliver your message.

Qubit shows its tool calls as small rows you can open to see their Arguments and Result. Answers can cite your documentation: a number in the answer links to the matching entry in the Sources list under it. Select the copy button, Copy answer, under a finished answer to copy it.

Choose what Qubit may use

The tools button in the bar at the top reads All sources until you narrow it, and No tools when everything is off. Select it to open Tools the assistant may use:

  1. Tick or clear Halo, Support memory, Documentation and each outside source that is offered to you. Support memory and Documentation are greyed out, with the reason, when your organisation has not set them up.
  2. Select Everything to go back to all sources.
  3. Select Done.

The panel remembers your choice in this browser. A source marked needs your sign-in is an outside source that you connect once in the QuantumOps web app. Select Connect beside it to open the web app's MCP Sources page. When you have no outside sources, the picker says No MCP sources are configured for you yet. See What Qubit can use: tools and sources.

Approve actions

When Qubit wants to do something that changes data, an Approval needed card appears in the answer. It shows what Qubit wants to run, why, and the details. Select Approve to let it run once, or Deny. On a tool that allows it, For this conversation and Always allow approve it without asking again. The message box is paused until you decide, and says Approve or deny the pending action to continue this thread.

The shield button in the bar, Standing approvals, lists what you approved for a conversation or for good, and lets you Revoke each one. Approving Qubit's actions explains the choices.

Approvals for your own chat are decided in the chat. Requests from Agent Runners and outside AI clients that wait for an Administrator are on the Approvals tab.

Attach files and screenshots

Select the paperclip, Attach files, paste a screenshot, or drop files onto the tab. While you drag, the tab says Drop files to attach. Each file shows as a chip that reads Preparing… and then Uploading…, with Remove to take it back. A file that cannot be sent shows Upload failed or the reason. Send waits until every upload has finished. Files in an answer, such as a chart, can be opened, previewed or downloaded; a preview that has expired says Preview expired. Files and charts in chat lists the file types and limits.

Start over and continue later

Select New thread to start a fresh conversation. The panel keeps one conversation at a time for each HaloPSA browser tab. It has no conversation list and no model list.

  • You can switch to another panel tab while Qubit answers. The answer carries on, and the Chat tab picks it up when you come back.
  • A conversation that you started in the panel can be reopened from Conversations in the web app, where it is listed under From your other surfaces with the label Browser extension.
  • A conversation that started in Slack or Teams stays there. The web app shows it as read-only, and the panel cannot continue it. The panel suggests you continue it where it began or start a new thread.

When chat is not available

Chat is on unless it has been switched off for your organisation. When it is off, the tab shows Chat is not available on this server with the reason, and says that Qubit Chat remains available in the QuantumOps web app. Use Qubit in the web app meanwhile, or ask your administrator to contact TechPulse support; Getting help explains how. The panel checks again each time it opens.

If an answer fails because an outside source needs your authorisation, the message says to open the web app, go to Settings → MCP Sources, connect the source and retry.
